Long video in, short clips out

OpusClip alternatives: 5 tools compared, free and paid

Worth knowing before you compare: MomentCut works from the video file (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 60 minutes), uploaded from your device (up to 30 GB, 20 GB on the free trial) or through a direct link to that file (up to 2 GB). YouTube links are not accepted.

Looking for an OpusClip alternative, free or cheaper, to turn long videos into captioned vertical clips? We compared five tools on what actually changes the bill: the free offer, the first paid plan, how usage is counted, the watermark and the import options. MomentCut is one of them, since it is our tool, so we also tell you plainly where the others do better.

MomentCut: long video in, short captioned clips out

Who this comparison is for

Creators, podcasters, coaches and clippers who cut shorts from long videos and are weighing several tools. If OpusClip works for you, keep it. This comparison is most useful if you want a different free offer, prices in euros, or a way of counting usage that fits your posting rhythm better.

The comparison in one table

Watch the word credit: at OpusClip and Vizard, one credit is one minute of imported video. Klap counts generated clips, Submagic counts videos, MomentCut counts minutes of source video.

OpusClip: the benchmark, with a real free plan

Strengths: a free plan that comes back every month (60 credits, so 60 minutes of imported video), import from a YouTube link, Drive, Dropbox or Vimeo, videos up to 10 hours and 30 GB on the Pro plan (10 GB on Free and Starter), and ClipAnything, which cuts on instruction even when a video has no dialogue. The Pro plan adds a post scheduler and AI B-roll. Founded in 2022, the company shows 506 reviews on Trustpilot (4.0/5): it is a tool with a track record.

Limits: prices are in US dollars, even on the French version of the site. Starter is monthly only and limited to 9:16, and credits on monthly plans expire after 60 days. On the free plan, clips carry a watermark and stay exportable for 3 days.

Klap: counting clips instead of minutes

Strengths: Klap is made in Paris (ZIGG SAS), accepts a YouTube link and counts usage in generated clips, handy if you know how many clips you want each month. Basic gives 100 clips a month for $14 a month billed yearly.

Limits: no permanent free plan, only a trial on one video. The prices shown are for yearly billing; the site advertises 50% savings compared with monthly. Trustpilot rating: 3.7/5 from 51 reviews.

Vizard: the most minutes for the money on a yearly plan

Strengths: a free offer of 60 credits a month, and a Creator plan at $14.50 a month billed yearly ($174 a year) with at least 600 credits a month, 4K export, no watermark and scheduling on 6 accounts. Around 2,500 reviews on Trustpilot, rated 4.7/5.

Limits: on the free plan, 720p export capped at 10 minutes, uploads up to 60 minutes and 1 GB, 3 days of storage and a watermark. Monthly, Creator costs $29.

Submagic: captions for videos that are already short

Strengths: a French company, a Starter plan at $12 a month billed yearly, without watermark and in 1080p. If your videos are already short and you mainly want captions, it fits well.

Limits: usage is counted in videos, 15 videos of up to 2 minutes a month on Starter (40 videos of 5 minutes on Pro, $23 a month billed yearly). Cutting a long video into clips (Magic Clips) is a separate paid add-on.

CapCut: if you already edit there

Strengths: CapCut Online has a tool that turns a long video into shorts, next to the editor many creators already use. Handy if you do not want to change habits.

Limits: the Pro subscription price varies by country, and we could not verify an exact amount or the details of the free offer. Check the terms in the app itself before you commit.

MomentCut: euro pricing and a file-based workflow

Strengths: prices in euros in Europe (before tax, added at checkout), a Starter plan at €9.99 a month for 100 minutes, or €99.90 a year with 2 months free, an interface available in 6 languages, and a free trial with no credit card. You start from your own file, which you keep: minutes are counted on the length of the source video, whatever the number of clips. Exports come in 9:16, 1:1, 16:9 or 4:5.

Per minute, do not expect big savings: MomentCut Starter works out at €0.10 a minute (€9.99 for 100 minutes), OpusClip Starter at $0.10 a minute ($15 for 150 credits). That is almost the same. On yearly plans, OpusClip Pro and Vizard Creator cost less per minute than our plans.

Limits, plainly: YouTube links are not accepted, you need the file. The free trial is one-time (15 minutes of video, 3 exports with a watermark), not an offer that comes back every month like OpusClip or Vizard. Videos are capped at 60 minutes and 30 GB (20 GB on the free trial). MomentCut does not post or schedule anything for you. Its clips last from about 8 seconds to 2 minutes, whereas OpusClip’s ClipAnything goes up to 15 minutes. Finally, the service is recent and does not yet have the review history of the others.

Common questions

Is OpusClip free?

OpusClip has a free plan: 60 credits a month (one credit per minute of imported video), renewed every month, with a watermark, export up to 1080p and clips exportable for 3 days. Paid plans start at $15 a month with Starter.

Which free OpusClip alternative should I pick?

For free usage every month, Vizard is the closest: 60 credits a month, with a watermark and 720p export capped at 10 minutes. Klap has no permanent free plan and Submagic offers a trial on a few videos. MomentCut offers a one-time trial of 15 minutes of video and 3 exports in 1080p, with a watermark and no credit card: enough to test, not to post for free every month.

Is MomentCut cheaper than OpusClip?

Not really per minute. Monthly, MomentCut Starter (€9.99 before tax for 100 minutes) and OpusClip Starter ($15 for 150 credits) both come to about 0.10 a minute, in euros for one and US dollars for the other. The difference is the lower entry price, euro pricing in Europe and the yearly plan with 2 months free. On a yearly plan, OpusClip Pro costs less per minute.

What if my videos are on YouTube?

YouTube links are not accepted by MomentCut. For your own videos, download the file from YouTube Studio, then upload it (up to 30 GB, 20 GB on the free trial). If you really want to paste a link, OpusClip and Klap let you.

Are the prices in the table up to date?
